About
See you at the Bass Rock on Duncannon Beach!
Participants (families or small groups) will be welcomed into a relaxed, rolling programme centred around a playful and engaging nature treasure hunt at Duncannon Beach.
Designed to explore the area’s unique habitats — from sandy stretches and shoreline microhabitats and tidal life — the experience encourages curiosity, observation, and discovery at your own pace.
On arrival, each group will receive a simple field kit including a reusable treasure hunt guide, a collection tray, a hand lens for close observation, and a pencil for sketching and note-taking. The guides are designed to prompt gentle exploration, creative thinking, and hands-on learning.
A facilitator will be present along the beach and rocky areas to support participants, answer questions, and guide discoveries as they unfold.
After exploring, groups are invited to return to the lab tables, where they can examine their findings more closely using microscopes, receive help with identification, and engage in informal discussion and shared learning with others.
For younger participants, a studio table will offer creative, hands-on activities such as sun printing, drawing, and seaweed slime-making — extending the experience through play and sensory engagement.
