About
Photography Workshops with Tasneem Khan
Learn to tell the story of seagrass through your lens.
On Thursday August 21st 2025, join photographer Tasneem Khan for an immersive afternoon exploring the textures, light, and life of Tramore’s seagrass meadows. We will meet at 1:00 pm at (52.169788, -7.122256 - this is the exact meeting location) for an introduction to seagrass ecosystems, their local significance, and the role they play in climate action.
No prior photography experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to explore. All necessary underwater image-making equipment will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own cameras, phones, sound recorders, or any other tools that might support their documentation process.
In small groups, we will:
Learn to use simple underwater camera housings for shallow-water photography.
Observe, question, and document the micro-habitats of seagrass meadows.
Capture images that contribute to a larger ecological story.
All photographs will be shared with Coastwatch as part of their ongoing research. Participants will also be invited to a separate image-processing session with Tasneem (date to be confirmed). Selected works will be exhibited at the Coastguard Cultural Centre during the Vitamin Sea Festival, becoming part of a much larger movement for ocean stewardship.
Seagrass Sessions invites Waterford communities to explore, document, and celebrate our hidden seagrass meadows off Tramore.
Throughout August and September 2025, guided beach forays and creative workshops will reveal how these “green forests” under the waves capture carbon, protect our shores, and nurture marine life. Together, we will deepen our connection to this vital ecosystem and inspire local climate action.
This project is funded by Creative Ireland and Waterford County Council.
